Holy Week – A Time of Reflection, Contemplation and Spiritual Renewal

Holy Week is the most sacred time in the liturgical year of the Church — seven days that lead us through the mystery of the Passion, death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

An Invitation to Pause

In the daily rush of life — full of duties, worries and hurry — Holy Week is a special invitation to stop. It is a time that the Church offers us not merely as a remembrance of events that took place two thousand years ago, but as a living and present spiritual reality in which we can participate with our whole heart.

May these days become for each of us a space of genuine contemplation — a moment when we set aside the noise of the world and allow ourselves to be touched by the depth of God's love revealed in Christ.

"This is the mystery of faith" — words we speak after the consecration take on particular power during Holy Week. We are invited to enter this mystery more deeply than ever before.

The Journey through the Sacred Triduum

At the heart of Holy Week is the Paschal Triduum — three days which the Church's liturgy treats as one, indivisible whole. It is a time of special spiritual intensity, when every rite, every word and every gesture carries profound meaning.

Holy Thursday The day of the institution of the Eucharist and the priesthood. The Mass of the Lord's Supper reminds us that love is expressed through service — Christ washes the feet of His disciples and gives Himself to us in the Bread of Life. After Mass, we invite you to quiet adoration in the Chapel of Repose.

Good Friday A day of strict fasting and recollection. The Stations of the Cross and the Liturgy of the Lord's Passion lead us through the successive stages of the Saviour's suffering. It is the day when the Church falls silent before the Cross — the sign of the greatest love.

Holy Saturday A day of silence and waiting at the Tomb of the Lord. The Church remains in adoration, and the evening Easter Vigil — with the lighting of the fire, the Exsultet, and the renewal of baptismal promises — is the highpoint of the entire liturgical year.

A Time of Reflection and Examination of Conscience

Holy Week is a natural moment to undertake deep reflection on our own spiritual life. The questions worth asking are not easy ones: Where am I in my relationship with God? Is my faith alive and personal, or merely outward? What in my life requires conversion and change?

For centuries the Church has encouraged us to receive the sacrament of Penance at this time — not out of habit or Easter custom, but out of a genuine need of the heart, as a response to the love of Christ who died for us.

Community in Holy Time

We live Holy Week as a parish community — together. Our participation in the liturgies, adorations and services is not only personal prayer, but also a witness of faith given to one another and to the world. When many of us gather at the Tomb of the Lord, at the Stations of the Cross, or around the fire of the Easter Vigil — we are the Church, alive and beautiful.

We warmly invite entire families — parents with children, the elderly and the young — to experience these extraordinary days together. May the experience of the Sacred Triduum become a lasting memory and a spiritual foundation for every domestic Church.

May Holy Week be for each of us a true passage — from the superficial to the deep, from hurry to silence, from routine to a living encounter with Christ.

We cordially invite you to participate in all the liturgies. God bless you for your presence and your prayer.
