The Franciscan Jubilee Year 2026 The 800th Anniversary Jubilee of the Death of Saint Francis of Assisi

We joyfully announce the promulgation of the decree establishing a special Jubilee Year commemorating the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi. His Holiness Pope Leo XIV has established that from January 10, 2026 to January 10, 2027, the Year of Saint Francis will be celebrated, during which all Christian faithful are invited to follow the example of the Saint of Assisi, becoming models of holy life and tireless witnesses of peace. The Apostolic Penitentiary grants a plenary indulgence, under the usual conditions, to all who devoutly participate in this extraordinary Jubilee, which forms an ideal continuation of the Ordinary Jubilee of 2025.

Conditions for obtaining the indulgence in our churches (for oneself or for the deceased - we encourage offering it for the souls suffering in Purgatory):

  • sacramental confession, in order to remain in a state of sanctifying grace;

  • participation in Holy Mass and reception of Holy Communion;

  • a pilgrim visit to a Franciscan friary church or a place of worship dedicated to Saint Francis anywhere in the world;

  • recitation of the Creed and the Our Father, to renew the dignity of God's children received in the Sacrament of Baptism;

  • prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father, as a sign of one's belonging to the Church.

During this extraordinary Jubilee Year, as the universal Church journeys along the paths of grace and conversion, we warmly invite all the faithful, pilgrims and visitors to come to our churches in the Bieszczady Mountains - in Wetlina and in Kalnica.

In our churches, relics of Saint Francis of Assisi have been placed for veneration. We invite you to pray before these sacred relics, asking for the intercession of the Poor Man of Assisi.
